Hello and welcome to my homepage. My lifelong love of animals, combined with a keen interest in healing, has led me to two modalities: Applied Zoopharmacognosy and Reiki.

Zoopharmacognosy refers to the observation of animals self-medicating: literally ‘zoo’ (animal), ‘pharmaco’ (remedy), and ‘gnosy’ (knowing). Hence, ‘animal self-selection’ as my homepage. Applied Zoopharmacognosy, then, is facilitating that self-medicative behaviour in domestic and captive animals by offering them plants and plant extracts for them to choose to help bring their body or mind back into balance.

Zoopharmacognosists do not diagnose or treat – that is the realm of veterinary medicine alone – but rather a zoopharmacognosy session provides an alternative way of working with the animal, in which he or she self-directs their healing through the selection of various plants or plant extracts.

Reiki is a form of energy work, which is non-invasive and does not necessarily require physical contact ~ energy can be sent by intent, whether from nearby (the stable, kennel, cattery or field, for example) or by ‘distance healing’. It is a gentle yet powerful healing system, which again focuses on facilitating self-healing and the restoration of equilibrium. Some animals ‘ask’ for Reiki hands-on (they seem instinctively to know who to ask), others will accept it if offered, and there are those who are very selective about who they will work with and when ~ as with zoopharmacognosy, it is ultimately for the animals to decide if they wish to engage or not.
